Abstract

              The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the generality of the role of village health volunteers in management of public health in  Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province, 2) to study the relationship between the personal factors and the role of the village health volunteers in the management of the public health in  Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province, and 3) to study the problems, obstacles and suggestions for the village health volunteers in the management of the public health in  Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province.

          This research applied the Mixed Methods Research consisting of the qualitative and quantitative research. The sample was 120 village health volunteers in Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province. The tools of the research were questionnaire and in-Depth interview from the 8 key informants. The analysis of data used Statistical Package for Social Science. The statistics for analysis data used Frequencies, Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, and Chi-Square test.

 

 

Results of the Research

              1. Overall, the role of the village health volunteers in the management of the public health in  Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province was at the middle level (µ =3.37). When considering each aspect, it was found that the preliminary treatment was at the highest level (µ =3.75). Then, the sanitary and providing the water was (µ =3.42), the health promotion was (µ =3.40), the maternal and child health and the family planning was (µ =3.34), the restoration was (µ =3.33), and giving the information about the outbreak was (µ =3.27). However, the prophylaxis was at the lowest level (µ =3.10).

 

2. The gender and occupation of the village health volunteers had the relationship to the role of the village health volunteers in the management of the public health in Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province at 0.05 of statistical significance. Therefore, the hypothesis was accepted. However, the age, degree of education, and income of the village health volunteers had no the relationship to the role of the village health volunteers in the management of the public health in Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province. Therefore, the hypothesis was denied. 

              3. The problems and obstacles of the village health volunteers in the management of the public health in Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province were that the village health volunteers were inexperienced in using the medical appliance and had no knowledge in the public health. The village health had a lot of duties. The service system was not integrated. The tools and equipment was insufficient to the demand of the village health volunteers. Moreover, the village health volunteers were hardly cooperated from the people. The suggestions for the village health volunteers in the management of the public health in Chum Saeng Municipality, Nakhon Sawan Province were that the municipality should provide the training in using the medical appliance and the preliminary treatment once a month, the village health volunteers in caring the patients. The municipality should set the working system to suit for their aptitude, and make the morale to the village health volunteers in the working such as providing the field trip and the medical appliance sufficient to the demand of the village health volunteers. Moreover, the municipality should update the data of the population.
